The Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) sets the national floor for time off for South Africans. Below are the minimum requirements by law:
- Annual leave - minimum 15 paid leave days per year
- 30 paid sick leave days over a 3 year cycle
- Compassionate leave - 3 paid days per year (does not carry over); death of child, spouse, parents, adoptive parents, extreme sickness of child
- Paternity leave - 10 days unpaid leave (claim UIF government fund)
- Maternity leave - 4 months unpaid leave (claim UIF government fund)
